Target Group

CLEAR PATHS™ is designed for adolescents and adults (16+) with intellectual, developmental, or learning disabilities whose socio-sexual behaviour has resulted in concern, boundary violations, or system involvement, including:

  • Socially inappropriate or misunderstood sexual behaviour

  • Repeated supervision concerns or safeguarding alerts

  • School, residential, community, or service-based incidents

  • Police contact or early justice-system involvement where behaviour is better understood as vulnerability-, skill-, or developmentally driven

The program is appropriate where behaviour reflects gaps in knowledge, consent understanding, impulse regulation, or social boundaries, rather than entrenched offending patterns.

Program Format

  • 4–6 structured sessions

  • 60–90 minutes per session

  • Delivered 1:1 virtual or in-person can be arranged, based on learning and support needs

  • Visual, concrete, and low-literacy accessible

  • Adapted to cognitive level, communication style, and cultural context

  • May involve caregivers or staff with informed consent to support generalization of skills

Core Modules

  1. Understanding Sexual Rules, Boundaries, and Expectations
    Clear explanation of public vs. private behaviour, consent, Law, consequences and safety norms

  2. What Happened? (Concrete Event Mapping)
    Step-by-step review of the behaviour, triggers, misunderstandings, and decision points

  3. Impact on Others
    Exploring emotional, social, and safety impacts using concrete, relatable examples

  4. Safer Choices Moving Forward
    Building alternative responses, scripts, and strategies for high-risk situations

  5. Personal Safety & Support Plan
    Developing an individualized plan that identifies supports, supervision needs, and protective strategies

  • Improved understanding of consent, boundaries, and sexual safety

  • Increased insight into the impact of behaviour on others

  • Demonstrated accountability appropriate to developmental capacity

  • Clear, practical strategies to reduce recurrence

  • Strengthened alignment between the individual, caregivers, and service providers

Follow Up : The individual will have a follow up an congratulatory meeting for their hard work and completion. Meetings with staff, family and caregivers may be arranged and consented information provided. Staff training is available to help support the individual appropriately with their individual and community safety plan.
